Kelly Hanson



Kelly Hanson has collaborated on dozens of shows primarily as a set/costume designer, ranging from experimental theatre to dance, opera and Broadway. More than 30 of these productions were new work. After co-founding Human Company with Royd Climenhaga she created and directed Orpheus & Eurydice, which premiered in August 2007 at chashama in NYC. She is currently working on a new evening-length work called The Death of Faust, which was shown in progress at Brooklyn Art Exchange in May, 2008.  She is also collaborating with performer Beth Bradford on a new one woman show.
Recent design credits include multiple productions with modern dance choreographer Monica Bill Barnes, Bill Irwin's The Happiness Lecture at Philadelphia Theatre Company, John Clancy’s Fatboy at the Ohio Theatre (NYC) and the Edinburgh Fringe (Fringe First Award), Flags at 59E59th, King Stag at Seattle Rep, and Schiele with Human Company. As Associate Designer to Tony Walton, Kelly worked on American Ballet Theatre’s new Sleeping Beauty (premiered June, 2007- Metropolitan Opera), Lisa Kron’s Well (Broadway Run), and The Boyfriend (Goodspeed Opera & National Tour) directed by Julie Andrews. She was also assistant director for Tony Walton’s productions of After the Ball at the Irish Rep and Moby Dick Rehearsed at the John Drew Theatre, East Hampton. Recent art direction for television includes Chopped (Food Network), MTV Choose or Lose, NBC Quill Awards and assistant art direction for Gossip Girl. Kelly earned her MFA in Set Design from University of California, San Diego in 2001. She was the 2005 recipient of the Rising Star Award from USITT/Entertainment Design Magazine and is a member United Scenic Artists Local 829.
